A Unicoi County Sheriff’s Deputy Has Been Injured In An Early Morning Pursuit. According To Sheriff Mike Hensley, Deputies Attempted To Make A Traffic Stop On Martins Creek Road Very Early This Morning. The Suspect Stopped His Vehicle, But Then Rammed The Deputy’s Patrol Car, Pinning The Officer’s Leg Between The Door And The Vehicle. The Suspect Then Drove Away And Was Later Caught Following A Pursuit. No Names Are Being Released At This Time As The Investigation Is Ongoing.

Statement from Sheriff Mike Hensley: "Shortly after midnight, deputies attempted to stop a DUI suspect when he fled. Deputies pursued the vehicle up Martins Creek to a dead end. Deputy Anthony Buckner started exiting his patrol unit when suspect rammed the patrol unit pinning officer Bucknerā€™s leg between the door and chassis. Suspect fled back down Martins Creek Deputies in pursuit. Suspect fled down Love Street turning onto Elm Street. Suspect turned left crossing Main Street , ran through the Erwin Post Office parking lot , jumped an embankment coming to rest at the Erwin Police Department . Suspect bailed out of the vehicle and after a short foot pursuit, Policeman Josh Ollis caught him and placed him under arrest. Suspect had multiple outstanding felony warrants out of Carter County and Warrants out of Washington County. Suspect was also driving a stolen vehicle out of Johnson City. Deputy Buckner was checked by. EMS and drove himself to Erwin ER. I want to commend my deputies and Erwin Police in the apprehension of this suspect. He is now facing felony charges in Unicoi County. Suspect was transported to the Unicoi County Jail . I want to thank God for watching over the officers ,It could have been a lot worse."
