CELEBRATING “NATIONAL TAKE A MODEL TRAIN TO WORK DAY” EAST TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY IN JOHNSON CITY HAS DEDICATED THE GEORGE L. CARTER RAILROAD MUSEUM TO HONOR THE LATE RAILROAD MAGNATE WHO DONATED HIS FARM TO THE STATE IN 1909 FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NORMAL SCHOOL THAT BECAME ETSU. THE DEDICATION WAS ANNOUNCED DURING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER, WHICH HAS BEEN DESIGNATED AS “NATIONAL MODEL RAILROAD MONTH.” THE CARTER MUSEUM OFFICIALLY OPENS TO THE PUBLIC ON SATURDAY AND IS LOCATED IN THE OLD ETSU COLLEGE OF MEDICINE BUILDING ON THE PEDESTRIAN MALL, OPPOSITE ROY S. NICKS HALL. A FULL-SIZE FLASHING RAILROAD CROSSING SIGNAL STANDS OUTSIDE THE BUILDING’S ENTRANCE ON THE GROUND LEVEL SIDE.
