A recent study found that 15 out of 16 hotel and motels in Pigeon Forge did not offer the rates they advertised on their signs. In some cases the actual rates were $40 to $60 higher. The local government’s solution? Ban the advertisements. Last week, commissioners approved the first reading of an ordinance to regulate the ads and a final decision could come in a few weeks. Knoxville station WATE-TV investigated the problem by hidden camera on Friday, finding more than one motel displaying one rate outside but telling people at the desk the rate was higher. Tourist Randy Jones told the station — “I don’t think it’s right for hotels to lure people in with low rates and then not give them a room for that price.”
