A Virginia Doctor, Who Was Convicted Of Illegally Prescribing Opioids, Has Been Sentenced In U.S. District Court In Abingdon Virginia . Dr. Joel Smithers Is Sentenced To 40 Years In Prison. Smithers Was Found Guilty Of Over 800 Counts Of Illegally Distributing Oxycodone And Oxymorphone That Caused The Death Of A West Virginia Woman. During The Trial, Smithers Claimed He Was A Caring Doctor Who Deceived By Some Of His Patients.
