ELIZABETHTON WILL NEED TO FIND A NEW CITY MANAGER AFTER CITY COUNCIL UNEXPECTEDLY FIRED CURRENT CITY MANAGER RUSSELL TREADWAY. A MOTION TO TERMINATE TREADWAY’S CONTRACT WAS MADE BY RICHARD SAMMONS. SAMMONS SAID THE COUNCIL MAY HAVE NOT MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE WHEN IT HIRED TREADWAY NEARLY A YEAR AGO. ONLY TWO OF THE SIX COUNCIL MEMBERS VOTED AGAINST THE MOVE. THE ONES WHO VOTED IN FAVOR OF FIRING TREADWAY WOULD NOT PUBLICLY DISCLOSE THEIR REASONS. TREADWAY SAID HE WAS TAKEN BY COMPLETE SURPRISE AND IS EMBARASSED. THE BIG SURPRISE IS THERE HAS BEEN NO CRITICISM OF TREADWAY IN THE PAST. THE SEARCH FOR A REPLACEMENT WILL START SOON.
