Several Environmental Agencies Are Working Together To Protect And Restore The Clinch And Powell Rivers. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Tennessee Department Of Environment And Conservation And The Virginia Department Of Environmental Quality Said The Rivers Have Some Of The Most Diverse Aquatic Life In North America, Including 20 Federally Endangered Freshwater Mussel Species. They Hope To Create A New Clinch River State Park And Water Trail In Virginia And Establish The Powell River Blueway In Tennessee. The Purpose Is To Increase Public Use Of The Rivers For Swimming, Fishing, Canoeing And Other Activities.
