Carter County Leaders Are Considering A Property Tax Hike. Budget Chairwoman Sonja Culler Said The County Is Facing A Nearly Half-A-Million Dollar Deficit, So A Balanced Budget Needs To Be Created. She Said The Only Way To Do That Is To Raise Taxes. The Budget Committee Has Worked The Numbers Down To About A Nine Cent Increase. However, County Mayor Leon Humphrey Believes There Are Other Ways To Make Up The Difference. He Said The Committee Needs To Look At County Offices To Cut First Before Raising People’s Taxes. The Commission Will Vote On The Budget Next Month.
