Members Of Both The Tennessee House And Senate Have Approved Legislation By An Area Lawmaker That Would Require Schools To Report Annually The Number Of Times Corporal Punishment Is Used On Kids With Disabilities And The Types Of Disabilities Involved. The Bill, Sponsored By Sen. Rusty Crowe (R), TN-District 3, Aims To Further Study The Paddling Of Students With Special Needs. Currently, The Federal Government Collects Corporal Punishment Data For Its Own Use Every Two Years. This Legislation Would Require More Detailed Data Be Provided Every Year To The Tennessee Department Of Education, Including If A Child Has An Active Individualized Education Program Or Active 504 Plan.
