A New Law Takes Effect January 1st That Will Make It Illegal In Tennessee To Talk On A Handheld Cellphone While Driving Through An Active School Zone. The Law Is A Class C Misdemeanor Punishable By A Fine Of Up To $50. If A Driver Is 18 Or Older And The Phone Is Equipped With A Hands-Free Device, Ti Will Not Be Considered An Offense. However, The Law Makes It Illegal For Anyone Under The Age Of 18 With A Permit Or Intermediate Licences To Use Even A Hands-Free Device In An Active School Zone.
