ANOTHER SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME HAD TO BE CANCELLED OVER THE WEEKEND AFTER A FOOTBALL PLAYER REPORTED HE HAD STAPH INFECTION. THE BACTERIAL DISEASE IS CARRIED AROUND BY UP TO 30 PERCENT OF PEOPLE, BUT CAN BE SERIOUS. THE LATEST CASE WAS FOUND AT HAYSI HIGH SCHOOL. THE GAME BETWEEN HAYSI HIGH AND HONAKER HIGH WAS POSTPONED. APPALACHIA HIGH SCHOOL HAD TO CANCEL A GAME AGAINST CLINTWOOD HIGH TWO WEEKS AGO WHEN A FOOTBALL PLAYER WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A STAPH INFECTION. CASES HAVE ALSO BEEN REPORTED AT GATE CITY MIDDLE SCHOOL AND AT ELIZABETHTON HIGH SCHOOL IN TENNESSEE. THE INFECTIONS ARE CAUSED BY THE BACTERIA IN YOUR NOSTRIL TISSUE. IT CAN CAUSE FEVER, CHILLS AND IN SOME EXTREMELY RARE CASE, CAUSE TOXIC SHOCK SYNDROME. THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT IT IS TO WASH YOUR HANDS WITH SOAP AND WATER.
