A northeast Tennessee man, serving a sentence in the drag racing death of a teenage girl and the severe burning of her friend, says he asked to be allowed to speak to young people about his experience. Bradley Mullins’ car slammed into the rear of a compact SUV during a 2005 street race in Johnson City, killing Cortney Hensley of Telford. Courtney Beard of Gray was severely burned. Mullins, who was 18 at the time of the crash, was sentenced to five years in December 2007. In a letter to the editor of the Johnson City Press, Mullins said he urged the judge, the families involved and the community to allow him to speak and produce public service announcements. The newspaper reported that with good behavior time and job credit, Mullins could be released from jail as early as May.
