TESTIMONY IS SCHEDULED TO RESUME THIS MORNING IN U.S. DISTRICT COURT IN GREENEVILLE IN THE TRIAL OF A FORMER WASHINGTON COUNTY TENNESSEE NURSING HOME OWNER ACCUSED OF DEFRAUDING MEDICAID OUT OF MORE THAN A MILLION DOLLARS. BILLIE ANDERSON IS CHARGED WITH OBTAINING MEDICAID PAYMENTS BY FRAUD. SHE’S ALLEGED TO HAVE FILED MEDICAID PAYMENT CLAIMS FOR PATIENTS WHILE CONCEALING THE FACT THE NURSING HOME HAD NO MEDICAL DIRECTOR ON STAFF. THIS IS BOTH A STATE AND FEDERAL REQUIREMENT FOR SUCH FACILITIES. GLENNA TAYLOR, A FORMER DIRECTOR OF NURSING AT ANDERSON HEALTHCARE IN GRAY TESTIFIED SHE QUIT HER JOB BECAUSE SHE FELT THE PATIENTS WEREN’T GETTING THE BEST CARE AND SHE COULDN’T GET MEDICAL SUPPLIES SHE NEEDED. THE TRIAL IS EXPECTED TO LAST INTO NEXT WEEK.
