Health care officials say Gov. Phil Bredesen’s proposed cuts to the state’s expanded Medicaid program would cost state hospitals hundreds of millions of dollars and may force some of them to shut down. Ed Herbert with Mountain States Health Alliance says for every dollar taken from Tenncare the hospital system loses two dollars in federal money. Herbert says this will force Mountain States to make cuts. One main change is a $10,000 annual cap on inpatient care for adults, which state officials say will save $51 million.
