CLASSES ARE BACK IN SESSION AT ONE FINALLY-STRAPPED COLLEGE, AND OFFICIALS SAY THEY’RE STRIVING FOR THINGS TO GET BACK TO NORMAL. DESPITE AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE EARLIER IN THE YEAR, SCHOOL BEGAN EARLIER THIS WEEK AT 114-YEAR OLD VIRGINIA INTERMONT COLLEGE IN BRISTOL. BACK IN APRIL, SCHOOL OFFICIALS TOLD FACULTY AND STUDENTS ABOUT ITS FINANCIAL PROBLEMS. IN FACT, 45 FACULTY MEMBERS DID NOT RECEIVE CONTRACTS BECAUSE THE SCHOOL WAS UNSURE IF THEY COULD PAY THEM. IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS THOUGH, V-I-C HAS RECEIVED BOTH LARGE AND SMALL DONATIONS FROM THOSE WHO DIDN’T WANT TO SEE THE HISTORIC SCHOOL SHUT ITS DOORS. RECENTLY, THE SCHOOL WAS GIVE A 200-THOUSAND DOLLAR GIFT FROM THE CHARLES B. KEESEE EDUCATIONAL FUND.
