The family of a slain University of Tennessee college student from Bristol Tennessee has settled a lawsuit against the Knoxville apartment complex where she was fatally stabbed in 2004. Michael and Joan Berry had sued Brendon Park Apartments, Brendon Park Associates and First Management Services Inc. of Nashville for $3.1 million. They claimed the apartment complex failed to provide adequate security for their 21-year-old daughter, Johnia (Jon-ah) Berry. A murder suspect was arrested in 2008 but hanged himself before he could be tried. Berry was a graduate of Tennessee High School and East Tennessee State University.
