DKA MAY LOSE FUNDING

Oct 29, 2009

Kingsport Mayor Dennis Phillips Has Directed The City Attorney To Draw Up An Agreement To Send Funding That Was To Go To The Downtown Kingsport Association – Instead To The Kingsport Convention And Visitors Bureau. Citing The Rapidly Approaching Holiday Season And A Lack Of Action By The Dka To Make Requested Changes To Its Bylaws, 48-Thousand Dollars Would Go Toward Downtown Marketing Efforts. In September, The Dka Had Been Asked By The Board Of Mayor And Aldermen To Make Changes That Would Include More Restrictive Term Limits For Dka Board Members. However, Bma Members Say Those Requirments Have Not Been Fulfilled To Their Satisfaction. Also At Issue, A Proposed Merger Of The Dka With The Rival Downtown Business Organization Has Stalled. The Bma Will Consider The Mayor’s Proposal At Its Next Regular Meeting On Tuesday.
