The Carter County Rescue Squad Is In Financial Trouble. The Organization Has Requested An Additional 375-Thousand Dollars From The County On Top Of The 170-Thousand It Gets Each Year To Help Cover A 200-Thousand Dollar Shortfall. Medical Costs Have Increased While Revenues Have Fallen. Without The Extra Money, The Hampton And The Roan Mountain Stations Would Have To Be Closed To Cover The Funding Gap. If Those Closures Occur, Response Times Could Reach 18 Minutes Or Longer. The County Is Expected To Make A Decision August 4th.
