Unicoi County Boasts One Of The Highest Property Tax Rates In Northeast Tennessee And Residents There Could Be Paying Even More Soon. Sheriff Mike Hensley Is Struggling To Keep The County Jail And His Office Adequately Staffed. He Has Said Budget Woes Are Preventing That From Happening. Now He’s Asking The County Taxpayers For An Additional 450-Thousand Dollars In Funding. It Would Translate Into An Extra 14-Cents On The Property Tax Rate, Which Is Currently At $2.49 Per $100 Of Assessed Value. The County Will Vote On The Proposal Later This Month.
