After A Federal Judge Rejected A Proposed Plea Deal In Which A Former Bristol Virginia Utilities Contractor Would Serve One Year In Prison. Instead James Todd Edwards Was Sentenced To 24 Months Behind Bars For His Role In The Bvu Corruption Scheme. Because Of His Cooperation With Prosecutors, Edwards Had Sought A Shorter Prison Term. However, The Judge Said He Wanted To Send A Message To Others Who Might Commit Similar Crimes By Imposing The Longer Jail Sentence. Edwards Pleaded Guilty To Conspiracy To Commit Wire Fraud, Money Laundering, And Other Charges. He Was Found Guilty Of Submitting False Invoices To Bvu In The Amount Of 330-Thousand Dollars.
