The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is celebrating National Trails Day next week with a work day event to maintain the park’s trail system. Volunteers will help with projects on June 6th ranging from cleaning and replacing water bars and rehabilitating steps and turnpikes to improving trail tread on sections of the Appalachian Trail. A picnic will be held at the end of the day at Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area for those who register, and they will also receive a commemorative T-shirt. The registration fee supports trail projects in the Smokies.
