One Sullivan County Official Is Hoping State Lawmakers Will Repeal The Intractable Pain Act Of 2001. District Attorney General Barry Staubus Believes The Act Has Unintentionally Contributed To The Growing Problem Of Drug Abuse In The State. The Health And Welfare Committee Passed Senate Bill 0157 To Repeal The Law Last Week. Staubus Said The Law Puts Legitimate Doctors In A Bad Position Because It Requires Them To Either Prescribe Patients Pain Medicine Or Refer Them To Someone Who Will. Pill Mills, As They Are Called, Have Increased Over The Past Several Years With 11 Of Them, Reportedly Operating In The County.
