THE BRISTOL VIRGINIA CITY COUNCIL HAS VOTED TO RESTRUCTURE A PORTION OF ITS GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND DEBT. THE REFINANCING PLAN SPREADS OUT A 1.1 MILLION DOLLAR PAYMENT DUE THIS FISCAL YEAR AND A 500-THOUSAND DOLLAR PAYMENT DUE NEXT YEAR. COUNCILMAN GUY ODUM DOESN’T AGREE WITH THE PLAN SAYING HE’S OPPOSED TO BORROWING MONEY TO PAY OFF DEBT. HE SAID THE RESTRUCTURING AMOUNTS TO REFINANCING A HOUSE OR CAR PAYMENT. THE MOVE IS EXPECTED TO COST THE CITY AN ADDITIONAL 590-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN INTEREST, LEGAL, AND CLOSING COSTS.
