MORE THAN 5-THOUSAND MOTORISTS HAVE BEEN CAUGHT BY RED LIGHT AND SPEED CAMERAS IN TENNESSEE’S OLDEST TOWN. IT’S BEEN SEVEN MONTHS SINCE JONESBORO BEGAN USING THE TRAFFIC CAMERAS. ACCORDING TO FIGURES COMPILED BY THE PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT, OVER 3-THOUSAND OF THE VIOLATIONS WERE FOR RUNNING RED LIGHTS, WHILE OVER 26-HUNDRED WERE FOR SPEEDING. ON AVERAGE, THE CAMERAS, WHICH ARE LOCATED AT THREE TOWN INTERSECTIONS, CATCH ABOUT 27 DRIVERS EACH DAY. PUBLIC SAFETY DIRECTOR CRAIG FORD SAID HIS DEPARTMENT HAS SEEN A REDUCTION IN VIOLATIONS EVERY MONTH AND A REDUCTION IN ACCIDENTS.
