UNDER THE GUN LIKE MANY JAILS TO COME UP WITH A PLAN TO CORRECT THE OVERCROWDING PROBLEM, GREENE COUNTY SHERIFF STEVE BURNS SAYS THE STATE HAS RE-CERTIFIED HIS JAIL FOR ANOTHER YEAR. THAT DECISION WAS HANDED DOWN FROM NASHVILLE WHERE THE SHERIFF AND COUNTY MAYOR, ALAN BROYLES MET WITH STATE OFFICIALS TO CONVINCE THEM TO RECERTIFY THE FACILITY. THIS IN THE FACE OF THE GREENE COUNTY COMMISSION FAILING TO COME UP WITH A PLAN TO DEAL WITH THE OVERCROWDING CONDITIONS. THE STATE HAD GIVEN THE COUNTY A DEADLINE OF DECEMBER 3RD TO DEVISE A PLAN, OR FACE BEING DECERTIFIFED WHICH COULD HAVE LED TO LAWSUITS. SHERIFF BURNS ATTRIBUTED THE GOOD NEWS TO RECENT EFFORTS TO TRANSFER FEDERAL PRISONERS OUT OF THE FACILITY.
