A KINGSPORT MAN ACCUSED IN A SHOOTOUT AT A CITY APARTMENT THAT LEFT TWO PEOPLE INJURED EARLIER THIS YEAR IS BEHIND BARS. 30 YEAR OLD SHAMARKUS MASON IS CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE MURDER, FAILURE TO APPEAR, POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A CONVICTED FELON, AND POSSESSION OF COCAINE WITHIN 1,000 FEET OF A SCHOOL. POLICE SAY MASON AND 44 YEAR OLD JOSEPH CLYDE BEARD ALLEGEDLY EXCHANGED GUNFIRE OUTSIDE LEE APARTMENTS AUGUST 15TH FOLLOWING A HEATED ARGUMENT. A 12 YEAR OLD GIRL AND HER FATHER WERE INJURED AS A RESULT OF THAT SHOOTING. MASON POSTED BOND A DAY AFTER THE SHOOTING AND THEN FAILED TO SHOW UP FOR COURT. HE’S CURRENTLY BEING HELD IN THE SULLIVAN COUNTY DETENTION CENTER.
