THE STATE IS CALLING SOME OF ITS FINAL WITNESSES IN THE TRIAL OF A JOHNSON CITY MAN ACCUSED OF HIS PART IN THE KILLING OF A JONESBOROUGH MAN. 22 YEAR OLD DANNY GREENE IS CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER IN THE SHOOTING DEATH OF 21 YEAR OLD BRIAN RICKER IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE DAYS INN MOTEL IN JUNE 2005. MARCUS COFFEY, THE ONLY EYEWITNESS TO THE CRIME, CONTINUED HIS TESTIMONY YESTERDAY. HE CLAIMED TO HAVE SEEN GREENE AND JASON AUSTIN APPROACH RICKER AND THEN SAW AUSTIN FIRE TWO SHOTS AND THE VICTIM FALL TO THE GROUND. HE THEN DROVE THE MEN TO A PREVIOUS LOCATION. COFFEY CLAIMS HE’S BEEN THREATENED BY AUSTIN THREE TIMES SINCE THE INCIDENT. COFFEY HAS ALREADY PLED GUILTY TO FACILITATION OF MURDER AND AGREED TO TESTIFY FOR THE STATE. AUSTIN IS SET TO GO TO TRIAL NEXT YEAR. THE STATE COULD WRAP UP ITS CASE TODAY.
