Officials of an animal shelter in Washington County Tennessee say they had to destroy 14 puppies and three adult dogs because of a disease scare. Director Debbie Dobbs told the Johnson City Press the former owner of a dog dropped off at the shelter neglected to say the animal appeared ill. Dobbs said if people bringing in dogs aren’t honest about health or behavioral problems, it puts the shelter and staff at risk. A Yorkshire terrier mix brought to the shelter last week was diagnosed as having parvovirus. Dogs that were housed close to it were put down because they could have been exposed to virus, which is highly transmittable.
