A GATE CITY VIRGINIA DENTIST CONVICTED IN A BOATING ACCIDENT THAT CLAIMED THE LIFE OF ONE MAN AND INJURED ANOTHER HAS HAD HIS DENTAL LICENSE SUSPENDED. WRAY CHAFFIN WAS CONVICTED OF NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE, RECKLESS BOATING, AND FAILURE TO RENDER AID IN A 2006 BOATING ACCIDENT ON BOONE LAKE THAT CLAIMED THE LIFE OF WAYNE CROSS AND INJURED JAMES CLARK. SULLIVAN COUNTY CIRCUIT JUDGE JERRY BECK ORDERED CHAFFIN TO SUPERVISED PROBATION AND RECOMMENDED HE PERFORM FREE DENTAL WORK FOR THE COMMUNITY. IN VIRGINIA, WHERE CHAFFIN’S PRACTICE WAS BASED, A CONVICTION RESULTS IN A MANDATORY LICENSE SUSPENSION. CHAFFIN’S LICENSE WAS LIFTED AS OF OCTOBER 24TH. IT’S UNCLEAR WHETHER CHAFFIN WILL TRY TO REDEEM HIS LICENSE OR HOW THE SUSPENSION WILL AFFECT HIS PROBATIONARY OBLIGATION.
