THE SULLIVAN COUNTY COMMISSION IS OPPOSING JOHNSON CITY’S ANNEXATION OF A FOOD CITY STORE BEING BUILT IN PINEY FLATS. COUNTY MAYOR STEVE GODSEY SAID HIS OFFICE HAS YET TO BE NOTIFIED BY JOHNSON CITY. HE SAID THE COUNTY AND THE CITY HAD AN AGREEMENT THAT JOHNSON CITY WOULDN’T ANNEX THE NEW COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT FOR SOME TIME. JOHNSON CITY PLANNING DIRECTOR JIM DONNELLY SAID THE PROPERTY HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN PART OF THE CITY FOR MORE THAN TWO WEEKS AND THAT NOTIFICATION WAS SENT TO THE COUNTY, STATE AND FOOD CITY REPRESENTATIVES, BUT NOBODY SHOWED UP TO THE PUBLIC HEARING ON OCTOBER 2ND. GODSEY CONTENDS HIS OFFICE NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE AND THAT THE DEAL COULD SHIFT SALES TAX REVNUEWS AWAY FROM SULLIAN COUNTY SCHOOLS.
