A HEAD-ON COLLISION ON TUESDAY MORNING BETWEEN TWO PICKUP TRUCKS IN FRONT OF WEST GREENE HIGH SCHOOL HAS CRITICALLY INJURED A WEST GREENE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT AND INJURED TWO OTHERS. 17 YEAR OLD KAYLA BARNETT OF MIDWAY WAS A PASSENGER IN ONE OF THE TRUCKS. SHE WAS AIRLIFTED BY WINGS TO JOHNSON CITY MEDICAL CENTER FOLLOWING THE ACCIDENT. THE ACCIDENT INVOLVED A CHEVROLET PICKUP DRIVEN BY 16 YEAR OLD DACOTA SMELCER, A ALSO A WEST GREENE STUDENT, AND A DODGE DRIVEN BY 44 YEAR OLD JAMES CORNWELL. THE COLLISION HAPPENED IN FRONT OF WEST GREENE HIGH SCHOOL. THE CRASH INJURED BOTH DRIVERS AND SMELCER’S PASSENGER, KAYLA BARNETT. POLICE SAY RECENTLY FALLEN RAIN MAY HAVE BEEN A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THE ACCIDENT. THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED, AN INVESTIGATION IS CONTINUING.
