TWO PUBLIC MEETINGS IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA HAVE BEEN SET FOR THE PURPOSE OF DISCUSSING WAYS TO RESTORE WATER QUALITY IN THE IMPAIRED NORTH FORK HOLSTON RIVER. THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION AND RECREATION AND THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY WANTS TO HEAR INPUT FROM THE PUBLIC TO OBTAIN INFORMATION THAT WILL HELP DETERMINE HOW THE WATERS CAN BE RESTORED TO THE RIVER. THE IMPAIRED STREAM SEGMENTS ARE ESTIMATED TO BE AROUND 81 MILES. A BAN ON CONSUMPTION OF FISH CAUGHT IN THE RIVER BELOW SALTVILLE, ENACTED IN 1972, REMAINS IN EFFECT. BOTH MEETINGS WILL TAKE PLACE ON NOVEMBER 4TH FROM 6 PM TO 8 PM. ONE WILL BE HELD AT FRIENDS COMMUNITY CHURCH ON PALMER AVENUE IN SALTVILLE WHILE THE OTHER WILL TAKE PLACE IN HILTONS AT HILTONS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON ACADEMY DRIVE.
