AN EAST TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL TEACHER HAS RESIGNED AMID ALLEGATIONS OF STUDENTS DRINKING ON A SCHOOL TRIP. CHRISTY LAWRENCE WAS A SPECIAL ED TEACHER AT UNIVERSITY SCHOOL. SHE WAS APPROVED BY THE TENNESSEE BOARD OF REGENTS TO BE THE COORDINATOR FOR THE SCHOOL’S TRIP TO AUSTRALIA IN SEPTEMBER. FIVE STUDENTS WERE SUSPENDED AFTER RETURNING HOME FOR ALLEGEDLY DRINKING ALCOHOL UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION AT A BARBECUE WITH AUSTRALIAN COLLEGE STUDENTS AND HOST FAMILIES DURING A CULTURAL EXCHANGE. LAWRENCE WAS BEING INVESTIGATED FOR ALLEGEDLY FAILING TO PROVIDE APPROPRIATE SUPERVISION TO STUDENTS.
