THE CLOCK IS TICKING IN GREENE COUNTY FOR SOMETHING TO BE DONE TO DEAL WITH OVERCROWDING AT ITS JAIL OR FACE DECERTIFICATION. THE STATE HAS IMPLEMENTED A DECEMBER 3RD DEADLINE TO HAVE A PLAN IN PLACE. SHERIFF STEVE BURNS SAYS SEVERAL OPTIONS ARE ON THE TABLE FOR CONSIDERATION. THE CONSENSUS OF THREE COMMITTEES FAVORS CONSTRUCTING A NEW DETENTION CENTER AT THE INTERSECTION OF U.S. HIGHWAY 11E AND HAL HENARD ROAD. THE SHERIFF BELIEVES A NEW JAIL AND JUSTICE CENTER CAN BE FUNDED WITHOUT A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE.
