THE SON OF KNOXVILLE DEMOCRATIC STATE LAWMAKER HAS BEEN ARRAIGNED AFTER BEING INDICTED BY A FEDERAL GRAND JURY FOR INTENTIONALLY ACCESSING THE E-MAIL ACCOUNT OF ALASKA GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN. 20 YEAR OLD DAVID KERNELL, WHO IS THE SON OF STATE REPRESENTATIVE MIKE KERNELL, TURNED HIMSELF IN TO FEDERAL AUTHORITIES YESTERDAY.THE INDICTMENT ALLEGES HE OBTAINED UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO PALIN’S PERSONAL E-MAIL BY ALLEGEDLY RESETTING THE ACCOUNT PASSWORD. ACCORDING TO THE INDICTMENT, KERNELL POSTED SCREENSHOTS OF THE E-MAILS AND OTHER PERSONAL INFORMATION TO A PUBLIC WEB SITE. KERNELL HAS PLED NOT GUILTY DURING AN ARRAIGNMENT. HE WAS RELEASED WITHOUT POSTING BOND. HOWEVER, KERNELL IS NOT ALLOWED TO OWN A COMPUTER, AND HE CAN ONLY USE THE INTERNET FOR CHECKING E-MAIL AND HIS CLASS WORK AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE. A DECEMBER 16TH TRIAL DATE HAS BEEN SET. IF CONVICTED, HE FACES UP TO FIVE YEARS IN PRISON AND A 250-THOUSAND DOLLAR FINE.
