THINGS ARE BACK TO NORMAL AT EASTMAN CHEMICAL COMPANY AFTER A SMALL CHEMICAL LEAK SENT THREE PEOPLE TO AN AREA HOSPITAL FOR OBSERVATION AND LATER RELEASED. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON FRIDAY IN THE ACETIC ANHYDRIDE SECTION OF THE PLANT. ACCORDING TO EASTMAN SPOKESWOMAN BETTY PAYNE, A SMALL AMOUNT OF METHYL ACETATE WAS RELEASED. THIS IS AN INGREDIENT IN FINGERNAIL POLISH. EASTMAN OFFICIALS SAID THE LEAK POSED NO HARM TO THE ENVIRONMENT AND WASN’T ENOUGH TO REQUIRE NOTIFICATION TO STATE OFFICIALS. EASTMAN IS WORKING TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING IN THE FUTURE.
