An official with Nuclear Fuel Services in Erwin has told members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission about signs that the company is continuing to improve safety. NFS general manager Tim Lindstrom says the company is working to continue improvement and not be satisfied at complying with regulations. A team from the NRC met with the company yesterday to discuss where the company stands on its safety improvements. Officials from the agency say the bottom line will be how the Erwin company performs in plant inspections. The facility processes nuclear materials for commercial reactors and the U.S. Navy’s atomic fleet. The company has stepped up efforts to improve safety after the belated disclosure of a uranium leak in 2006.
