A federal prison in Lee County Virginia was placed on lockdown after an inmate was killed in an incident involving another prisoner. The incident occurred Tuesday morning. In a news release, prison spokesman Todd Sloop said staff immediately separated the inmates and one, Quentin Corniel, was taken to Lee Regional Hospital. Corniel was pronounced dead 90 minutes later. Sloop didn’t provide details of the incident. He said the cause of death hasn’t been determined and an autopsy has been ordered. No staff were injured. The Federal Bureau of Prisons is investigating the incident. Corniel was scheduled to be released Aug. 26, 2009. He was serving a 77-month sentence for being a felon in possession of ammunition.
