Consol Energy has reopened a Virginia mine that was ordered shut down by federal regulators. Consol said production resumed Tuesday at its Buchanan Mine near Mavisdale. The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration had ordered Consol to stop production while new concrete seals cured to full strength at the mine. Consol said the seals are in compliance with federal regulations. Buchanan was closed nine months last year after a roof fall occurred in the area that was sealed. Consol operates mines in Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio and Utah.
