A MINING ACCIDENT IN WISE COUNTY VIRGINIA HAS INJURED AN EMPLOYEE AFTER THE BULLDOZER HE WAS DRIVING FELL OFF A 25 FOOT WALL. THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED ABOUT 10:30 WEDNESDAY EVENING AT FAIRBANK’S COAL COMPANY’S NUMBER THREE MINE. ACCORDING TO MIKE ABBOTT WITH THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF MINES, MINERALS, AND ENERGY, 50 YEAR OLD MICHAEL WRIGHT OF JENKINS KENTUCKY WAS AIRLIFTED TO THE JOHNSON CITY MEDICAL CENTER. WRIGHT’S CONDITION ISN’T BELIEVED TO BE LIFE THREATENING. ABBOTT SAYS THERE ARE NO PLANS TO SHUT DOWN THE MINE WHICH HAS BEEN IN OPERATION SINCE JANUARY OF 2005. THE FEDERAL MINE SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION IS HAS JOINED THE STATE AGENCY IN THE INVESTIGATION.
