IF INCREASED REGISTRATION NUMBERS ARE ANY INDICATION, TRI CITIES AREA ELECTION OFFICIALS SAY YOUNG PEOPLE, PARTICULALY WOMEN UNDER 25, ARE COMING OUT IN DROVES TO BE ABLE TO VOTE IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION THIS YEAR. WITH THE ELECTION JUST FIVE WEEKS AWAY, WASHINGTON COUNTY VIRGINIA VOTER REGISTAR MARY ANN COMPTON SAID MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE BECOMING INTERESTED IN THE OUTCOME OF THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL RACE. AS OF SEPTEMBER 15TH, COMPTON SAID MORE THAN 284-THOUSAND NEW VOTERS HAVE REGISTERED ACROSS THE STATE TO VOTE. OF THOSE, MORE THAN 42 PERCENT ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 25. IN ORDER TO BE PREPARED FOR THE LARGE NUMBER OF VOTERS, COMPTON SAID HER OFFICE IS GEARING UP WITH MORE VOLUNTEERS AND VOTING MACHINES. NOVEMBER 4TH IS EXPECTED TO HAVE THE LARGEST VOTER TURNOUT IN HISTORY.
