A FORMER HAMBLEN COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY ACCUSED OF FORCING WOMEN TO TAKE INAPPOPRIATE ACTIONS TO GET OUT OF CITATIONS IS BEHIND BARS. ACCORDING TO THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION, DEXTER MORRIS IS CHARGED WITH CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATION AND MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS TO THE FBI. HE ALLEGEDLY FORCED A WOMAN TO ENGAGE IN SEXUAL ACTS FOLLOWING A TRAFFIC STOP IN AUGUST 2005. DURING AN APRIL 2007 INTERVIEW, HE CLAIMED HE COULDN’T REMEMBER WHETHER HE HAD EVER HAD SEXUAL CONTACT WITH ANY WOMAN HE ENCOUNTERED DURING A TRAFFIC STOP. MORRIS FACES UP TO LIFE IN PRISON AND FINES OF UP TO 600-THOUSAND DOLLARS. HE’S CURRENTLY FREE ON BOND AND IS SCHEDULED TO APPEAR IN U.S. DISTRICT COURT OCTOBER 14TH.
