A WASHINGTON COUNTY VIRGINIA STUDENT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH MENINGITIS. THE CHILD, WHOSE NAME IS NOT BEING RELEASED, HAS HAD HER CASE REPORTED TO THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. ACCORDING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, THIS TYPE OF MENINGITIS DOES NOT EASILY SPREAD, SO NO PREVENTIVE MEDICAL TREATMENT WILL BE NEEDED FOR THOSE WHO HAVE COME IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH THE STUDENT. THE CHILD’S CONDITION IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME. HEALTH OFFICIALS SAY IT’S CRITICAL TO MAKE SURE KIDS DON’T SHARE PERSONAL ITEMS SUCH AS TOWELS, RAZORS OR CLOTHING AND THAT THEY WASH THEIR HANDS, PARTICULARLY BEFORE THEY EAT.
