THE HAWKINS COUNTY COMMISSION HAS VOTED TO RESTORE FUNDING TO COUNTY EMERGENCY WORKERS. COUNTY LEADERS HAD DECIDED EARLIER TO CUT TEN PERCENT FROM EMERGENCY SERVICES, BUT LAST NIGHT, THEY CHANGED THEIR MINDS. VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS, THE 911 DISPATCH AND AMBULANCE SERVICES WILL GET THEIR FUNDS BACK. THIS LEAVES THEM HAPPY BECAUSE SERVICES AND RESPONSE TIME WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPACTED. COUNTY COMMISSIONERS DID SAY THAT NEXT YEAR, WITH THE HIGH FUEL PRICES, THEY COULD BE FORCED TO BRING ABOUT A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE THAT THEY AVOIDED THIS YEAR.
