ELIZABETHTON POLICE HAVE CHARGED A CITY BUSINESSMAN WITH THE RECENT VANDALISMS AT SEVERAL DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES. GARY WASSOM OF WASSOM INTERIORS IS CHARGED WITH TEN COUNTS OF VANDALISM. HE’S ACCUSED OF USING A BLUNT OBJECT TO SMASH GLASS WINDOWS OF NINE ELK AVENUE BUSINESSES AND A LOCAL CHURCH ON SEPTEMBER 9TH AND 10TH. MERCHANTS SAID WASSOM TOLD THEM HE WAS OUT OF TOWN DURING THE INCIDENTS “HELPING TO DECORATE THE WHITE HOUSE FOR CHRISTMAS.” SURVEILLANCE VIDEO SHOWED POLICE A BRIEF GLIMPSE OF THE SUSPECT AS HE PASSED BY A DOWNTOWN BUSINESS. THE INVESTIGATION IS CONTINUING.
