A CARTER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY WHO WAS SHOT IN THE LINE OF DUTY OVER THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND HAS BEEN RELEASED FROM A LOCAL HOSPITAL. STEPHANIE SIMPSON WAS SHOT IN THE FACE BY A MAN WITH A .308 RIFLE AFTER OFFICERS RESPONDED TO A PROPERTY DISPUTE. THE SUSPECT WAS SHOT AND KILLED. SIMPSON HAS UNDERGONE SEVERAL EXTENSIVE SURGERIES. SHERIFF CHRIS MATHES IS HAPPY WITH HER PROGRESS. SIMPSON WILL BE OUT OF WORK FOR A LONG TIME WHILE UNDERGOING ADDITIONAL REHABILITATION. AN ACCOUNT HAS BEEN SETUP AT BANK OF TENNESSEE AND CARTER COUNTY BANK TO HELP HER WITH HER EXPENSES AND NEEDS.
