An employee of the Unicoi County Jail is accused of stealing money from inmates to pay his rent. 36-year-old Jimmy Fox is charged with two counts of theft and one count of misconduct after Sheriff Kent Harris said Fox admitted taking money belonging to two jail inmates. Fox had worked at the jail for about three weeks. He is also a former Washington County constable. Harris said inmates complained they didn’t get back all the money they had surrendered when they were booked. The sheriff said investigators were preparing to give Fox a polygraph test Monday when he admitted taking nearly $300, saying he paid his rent with it. Fox was immediately fired. He’s charged with theft and offical misconduct.
