THE IDEA OF A WHEEL TAX IN WASHINGTON COUNTY TENNESSEE IS APPARENTLY NOT A DEAD ISSUE, AT LEAST NOT YET. SO A WHEEL TAX COMMITTEE HAS BEEN FORMED TO TALK FURTHER ABOUT ONE. HOWEVER, COMMISSIONER PAT WOLFE BELIEVES THE WHEEL TAX IS – IN HIS WORDS – “DEAD AND BURIED.”

ACCORDING TO WHEEL TAX CHAIRMAN AND COMMISSIONER GREG MATHERLY, THE PUROSE OF THE COMMITTEE IS TO STUDY THE NECESSITY OF A WHEEL TAX AND SERVE AS A FORUM TO LET THE PUBLIC EXPRESS ITS VIEWS ON THE SUBJECT. LAST MONTH, COMMISSIONERS VOTED DOWN THREE SEPARATE WHEEL TAX PROPOSALS. THE MEETING IS SET FOR THIS FRIDAY AT SEVEN O’CLOCK AT THE COURTHOUSE.
