A BUCHANAN COUNTY VIRGINIA TEEN ACCUSED OF KILLING HIS FATHER HAS PLED NOT GUILTY BY REASON OF INSANITY. ADAM CHAPMAN WAS CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER IN THE SHOOTING DEATH OF 51 YEAR OLD DAVID CHAPMAN. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT THE FAMILY HOME ON WHITT BRANCH ROAD IN THE ROWE SECTION OF THE COUNTY. CHAPMAN WAS SHOT IN THE HEAD WITH A 12 GAUGE SHOTGUN. COMMONWEALTH ATTORNEY TAMERA NEO SAID ACCORDING TO AN EXPERTS REPORT, IT WAS CLEAR CHAPMAN SUFFERED 19 YEARS OF PHYSICAL ABUSE FROM HIS FATHER AND IT CREATED A SITUATION WHERE THERE WAS A MENTAL BREAKDOWN. HE HAS BEEN REMANDED INTO THE CUSTODY OF THE COMMISSIONER OF MENTAL HEALTH WHERE HE WILL BE EVALUATED AND ASSESSED. A REPORT WILL BE RELEASED IN 45 DAYS REGARDING HIS SANITY NOW. THE COURT WILL HAVE TO DECIDE IF CONTINUED CUSTODY AND TREATMENT IS WARRANTED OR IF A COMPLETE RELEASE IS PROPOSED.
