THE SMYTH COUNTY VIRGINIA SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS CONTINUING TO INVESTIGATE HUMAN REMAINS FOUND BY HIKERS OVER THE WEEKEND THAT ARE BELIEVED TO BE THOSE OF A MISSING MISSOURI MAN. A HUMAN SKULL WAS FOUND IN HUNGRY MOTHER STATE PARK NEAR MARION WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE A GUNSHOT WOUND. SHERIFF DAVID BRADLEY SAID A HANDGUN AND A PASSPORT WERE FOUND NEAR WHAT APPEARED TO BE A MAKESHIFT SHELTER IN A REMOTE AREA OF THE PARK. THE PASSPORT BELONGED TO 62 YEAR OLD JOHNNIE DUNIVAN WHO WAS WANTED ON CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES OUT OF MISSOURI. BRADLEY ISN’T SAYING IF THE CAUSE OF DEATH IS SUICIDE OR FOUL PLAY. THE REMAINS HAVE BEEN SENT TO THE MEDICAL EXAMINER’S OFFICE IN ROANOKE FOR AN AUTOPSY. POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION SHOULD BE KNOWN IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
