A WASHINGTON COUNTY TENNESSEE JURY WILL NOW DECIDE THE FATE OF A MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING ANOTHER MAN OUTSIDE A JOHNSON CITY MOTEL NEARLY THREE YEARS AGO. 28 YEAR OLD JASON AUSTIN IS CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER IN THE SHOOTING DEATH OF BRIAN RICKER OUTSIDE THE DAYS INN ON BROWNS MILL ROAD IN 2005. AUSTIN TESTIFIED THAT HE NEVER MEANT TO KILL ANYONE AND THAT HE ACTED IN SELF DEFENSE BECAUSE HE THOUGHT RICKER HAD A GUN. PROSECUTORS SAID NO GUN WAS FOUND AT THE SCENE. MEANWHILE, AUSTIN’S CO-DEFENDANT, DANNY GREENE IS SERVING TIME AFTER BEING CONVICTED EARLIER OF SECOND DEGREE MURDER.
